I’ve always been a writer, and I had heard early on that writers need first-hand life experience in order to have content to write about. I also learned early that travelling outside your comfort zone is a sure-way to collect deep, meaningful life experiences.

For me, travelling has always been about the potential for personal growth and external possibility. I may have a list of general sites I plan to see, but the unknown that will happen in the in-between and the people I will undoubtedly meet along the way that will change my course—that’s what I’m banking on when I board a plane. I take my travel stories and help them enrich my lifestyle.

Travelling, especially alone, requires awareness. When I’m hiking up a mountain or exploring a new neighbourhood and my mind is present, I’m constantly finding amazement in otherwise small observances I wouldn’t have made at home. It acts as a mental reset for me. I bring that awareness home with me and relearn to find the gift in the moment. That’s why I love travelling!
